Frequently Asked Questions
Curious about Biodynamic CranioSacral Therapy? Here are some of the questions people commonly ask before their first session.
Understand BCST & Natural Healing
By natural healing, I mean supporting the body's own innate capacity to adapt, regulate and find balance, rather than constantly trying to fix or force change from the outside.
It is about listening to the body, understanding its signals and creating the space and conditions where its natural wisdom can unfold.
Your body is not something that needs to be constantly fixed. It is an intelligent, living system with its own capacity for wellbeing and balance.
Natural Healing Science is the philosophy behind my practice.
It brings together my education and experience across Eastern and Western approaches to health, with a deep respect for the body's intelligence and its connection with the whole person and nature.
Today, my work focuses particularly on Biodynamic CranioSacral Therapy and supporting the health and balance of the nervous system.
Biodynamic CranioSacral Therapy (BCST) is a gentle, non-invasive and refined hands-on approach that supports deep relaxation and awareness.
It works with your body's natural capacity for balance and wellbeing, rather than trying to force change.
During a session, you remain fully clothed and comfortably supported while I use gentle touch and deep listening.
Biodynamic CranioSacral Therapy has its roots in osteopathy and the work of Dr. William Garner Sutherland, who observed subtle rhythmic movements within the body and became fascinated by the body's ability to regulate and organise itself as a whole.
Rather than relying on force or manipulation, this work evolved towards a practice of listening to the body and supporting its own natural processes.
Today, BCST is based on the understanding that the body has its own inherent resources and capacity for balance.
Rather than trying to fix or force something to change, a session creates a quiet space where you can slow down, reconnect with your body and allow your nervous system to settle at its own pace.
Every person and every session is different.
Your body sets the pace.
The nervous system plays an important role in how we respond to the world around us and influences our sense of wellbeing and quality of life.
When we are continually stressed, overwhelmed or exposed to too much stimulation, it can become harder to fully rest, restore and reconnect with ourselves.
I focus on working with the nervous system to support settling, reconnection and a greater sense of balance.
Massage generally works more directly with muscles and soft tissues through pressure, movement and manipulation.
BCST works with your body's own intelligence and natural processes. Through refined touch and deep listening, it supports the body to relax and release tension from within, without forcing change.
Your Session
You remain fully clothed and lie comfortably on a treatment table.
The session takes place in a quiet and supportive environment. I use gentle, refined touch and deep listening while allowing your nervous system and body to settle at their own pace.
You don't have to perform, explain everything or make anything happen.
You can simply be.
Yes. BCST is performed with you fully clothed.
You simply wear loose and comfortable clothing that allows you to relax easily.
The touch is gentle, refined and attentive rather than firm or forceful. It offers a sense of safety and presence, creating a quiet space where the body can feel supported, much like the deep sense of being held and protected in the womb.
You are welcome to talk if you would like to share something, ask a question or let me know how you are feeling. But you don't need to explain everything or talk throughout the session.
Sometimes, continuing to talk or engage with the mind can keep us in an active state, making it harder to slow down and settle. For some people, repeatedly talking about difficult experiences can also feel activating rather than supportive.
You don't have to find the right words or make sense of everything.
You can simply rest, be present and allow your body to have its own experience.
There is no need to do anything. You can simply be.
Everyone's experience is different.
Some people experience a shift from tension, anxiety or feeling overwhelmed towards a deeper sense of relaxation and stillness. Others notice subtle sensations, emotions, memories or changes in their awareness.
Some people simply feel quieter, more rested and more connected with their body, experiencing a greater sense of safety, inner ease and joy.
There is no “right” experience. We allow your body and nervous system to move at their own pace.
No.
You don't need to relax in a particular way, feel a particular sensation or achieve anything during the session.
The invitation is simply to stop, listen and be present.
Your body knows what to do.
Is BCST Right for Me?
BCST is for anyone who would like to create more space for relaxation, self-awareness and connection with their body.
You might be interested in BCST if you:
feel stressed, overwhelmed or constantly “switched on”
find it difficult to truly relax
feel tired or low in energy even after sleeping
feel disconnected from your body
carry physical or emotional tension
are moving through a period of change
want more space for rest and self-awareness
are interested in supporting your nervous system and overall wellbeing
simply feel that you need to slow down and take some time for yourself
You don't have to wait until something is wrong to care for your nervous system.
People come for many different reasons.
Some are looking for support during periods of stress, overwhelm or change. Others want to reconnect with their body, create more space for rest, or develop greater self-awareness.
Some people simply feel that their system has been doing too much for too long and would like some support and care as it finds its way back towards balance.
BCST is not about putting you into a particular category. Your experience and what you need are unique to you.
Many people seek BCST when they feel stressed, overwhelmed or like their nervous system is constantly “switched on”.
The session offers a quiet environment where you can stop, relax and allow your nervous system to settle at its own pace.
Rather than forcing your system to change, we create space for it to find its own way towards greater balance.
BCST can provide a dedicated space to slow down and deeply relax.
Some people notice that they feel calmer, quieter or more rested after a session.
Everyone responds differently. The focus is on supporting your nervous system and creating space for rest and restoration.
BCST can be adapted to suit different ages and individual needs. Its gentle approach can offer a supportive space for babies and children as they begin their journey through life, discover their world and meet new experiences.
If you are considering a session for a child, please contact me first so we can discuss what would be appropriate and whether BCST is a suitable option.
Before You Book
There is no fixed number of sessions.
Some people choose to have a single session when they simply need time to pause and reset. Others find that regular sessions provide ongoing support for their wellbeing.
Your needs, circumstances and experience will guide this.
There is no need to commit to a particular number of sessions before you begin.
BCST is a gentle and non-invasive hands-on approach. I work with your body's own capacity for change and balance, creating space for your body to do what it naturally knows how to do.
You remain fully clothed during the session, so comfortable, natural, loose-fitting clothing is recommended.
There is no need to change into special clothing.
To help create a comfortable and undisturbed space, I recommend avoiding jewellery, perfume or strong fragrances. If you have showered just before your session, please allow your hair to dry first.
BCST for Retirement, End-of-Life & Palliative Care
BCST may be a gentle option for people moving through significant life transitions, including retirement, ageing, serious illness, palliative care and the end of life.
It can offer a quiet space to slow down, rest, reconnect with the body and receive gentle, supportive touch.
It may also be meaningful for family members and carers who are carrying the emotional and physical demands of supporting someone they love.
Retirement can be a much bigger transition than simply finishing work.
For some people, it can bring changes in identity, daily routine, relationships, purpose and a sense of who they are.
After years of being busy and productive, the nervous system may need time to adjust to a different pace of life.
BCST offers a quiet space to pause, slow down and reconnect with yourself as you enter this new chapter.
You don't have to keep doing. You can simply be.
BCST may be offered as a complementary wellbeing practice alongside palliative care, with the focus on comfort, relaxation, presence and connection.
The approach is gentle and non-invasive, and the session can be adapted to the person's condition, energy and comfort.
There is no expectation to achieve anything or make anything happen.
The body sets the pace.
BCST does not replace medical or palliative care, and any session should be discussed with the person's healthcare team when appropriate.
At the end of life, there may be very little need to do anything.
Sometimes what is most valuable is simply having a quiet, peaceful space to rest and be accompanied.
A session may offer an opportunity for gentle touch, stillness, presence and connection with the body.
Some people may experience relaxation, warmth, stillness or a sense of being supported. Others may simply rest.
There is no right experience and nothing that needs to be achieved.
The session can be adapted according to the person's comfort, mobility and needs.
The person does not necessarily need to lie on a treatment table. Depending on their circumstances, the session may be adapted to a bed, chair or another comfortable position.
For someone who is very unwell, I would discuss their situation beforehand and, where appropriate, coordinate with their healthcare or palliative care team.
Yes, depending on your service area and the person's circumstances, a session may be possible in a home, hospice or other suitable setting.
The priority is always to create a comfortable, quiet and safe environment.
Please contact me to discuss individual circumstances before booking.
Yes.
When someone is approaching the end of life or receiving palliative care, family members and carers can also experience significant emotional and physical demands.
A session can provide them with a quiet space to pause, rest and reconnect with themselves.
Caring for yourself is also part of caring for someone you love.
No.
There is no requirement to talk about illness, death or anything else.
They can talk if they wish, or simply rest in silence.
Sometimes there are no words needed.
You don't have to explain everything. You can simply be.
Not necessarily.
Especially towards the end of life, healing does not have to mean curing or changing the illness.
It can simply mean creating space for comfort, connection, presence and being supported through the experience.
There is nothing that needs to be fixed.
Sometimes the most supportive thing we can offer is simply our presence.
Still Have a Question?

We can simply have a conversation.
Natural Healing Science
is not about finding more things to fix.
